HK Collective Conference

University of Ottawa  - Lees Campus

April 26th, 2024

Hello Professors & Students. We are pleased to announce that the Annual uOttawa HK Graduate Student Conference will be making a return this spring! This year we are unveiling a new and improved experience for graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and undergrads interested in research.

The 2024 HK Collective Conference will be a multidisciplinary affair for students across not only the University of Ottawa, but interested parties from McGill, Queen’s, McMaster, and other invitees. This promises to be a great opportunity to share research interests and network with members of different universities. As the first edition of this conference, and to encourage participation, there will be no fees associated with attendance and abstract submissions. As for accommodations, interested students are responsible for their own lodgings.

The 2024 HK Collective Conference will be hosted at our new Lees Campus on Friday April 26th, from 9AM to 5PM. Lunch and coffee will be provided; for any dietary restrictions please indicate so in the attendance registration form. This will be followed by a Graduate Student Spring Social at the new campus bar Nox at 7PM (2nd Floor of Minto Sports Complex). This will coincide with the start of our annual student prof hockey tournament as the bar overlooks the rink, providing some entertainment during the tournament’s kickoff!

We have already confirmed Dr. Scott Rathwell (University of Lethbridge) as the Keynote speaker, with panel members Dr. Michael Carter (McMaster University), and Etienne Chassé (MSc graduate working for the Canadian Forces). All with ties to the University of Ottawa, we will have some more information on our invited guests in the coming weeks.

We will be accepting abstracts for submission until Thursday March 28th. Please see the attached abstract submission document for all necessary information surrounding abstracts. Below will be two links for Google Forms that must be followed to ensure attendance. 1) The Conference Attendance Form which needs to be filled out regardless of whether or not an abstract will be submitted, and 2) The Abstract Submission Form.

More information will follow as it comes! Please circulate this information amongst your colleagues. For any questions, please contact Connor McFaul and the HKGSA (cmcfa091@uottawa.ca , hkgsa@uottawa.ca).
